FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – The Nova Southeastern swimming and diving teams are set to travel to Tampa, Saturday, Dec. 1, at 11:30 a.m. The No.12 men come into this event 2-1 (2-0 SSC) and the No.15 women 3-1 (3-0 SSC).
Coming into the event, the Spartans are ranked higher than NSU, as Tampa women land at No. 6 and the men No. 11 in the national rankings. The Spartan women come into this weekend at 3-1 (3-0 SSC) while the men stand at 0-3 (0-2 SSC).
This will be the first time that the Sharks will come face-to-face with the Spartans this season, as they will face them in-season again at the Shark Invitational that will be hosted by NSU on Dec.14-17 at the NSU Aquatic Center.
Last season, the women defeated Tampa, 108.5-96.5. NSU’s
Erin Black (Sr., Fort Myers, Fla.) will take on Tampa’s Heather Glenday, the MVP for the Sunshine State Conference last season, in the distance events. Black has been consistent in taking out Glenday in the 500-yard freestyle, while Glenday has had the upper hand in the 1,000 and 1,650 -freestyle. The Sharks will also face SSC Swimmers of the Week Erin Plachy (sprint freestyle events) and Catherine Parker (butterfly).
On the men’s side, the Sharks defeated the Spartans last year with a score of 140-65. The men will face off with Tampa after their loss against Saint Leo, 147-115. The Sharks beat the Saint Leo men earlier this season, 130-74, which gives NSU the early upper hand against Tampa.
